Acetaia sereni -The Story

The family began producing balsamic vinegar in the early twentieth century with Santina, who became a member of the Sereni family through marriage. A housewife, she cooked for her large family. It was very common to use balsamic vinegar as a condiment in typical Modena meals. For this reason Santina produced each year a few litres of balsamic vinegar..

Santina’s son, Attilio, who sold fruit in the Valle dei Ciliegi, grew passionate about this extraordinary product and started to buy casks and deal with the family production of balsamic vinegar, in order to obtain each year a small quantity of product to give as a gift to friends, co-workers and customers. It wasn’t until 1982 that Attilio’s son, Pier Luigi, started actual sales of balsamic vinegar, to then moved in the early years of the 21st century to the Villabianca estate, on the Modena hills, a new begin for Acetaia Sereni.

Acetaia Sereni : Terroir and Estate

• SOUL Our vineyards are located on Modena Hills, on a clay-calcareous soul. We call this area “AltaModena”

• CLIMATE Hot in summer, cold in winter. Fresh air brought by River Panaro that flows in the valley.
• MENTALITY Passion, patience, obstinacy, reverence for tradition and healthy balance of perfectionism and obsession, carried on from generation to generation. In one word: “Modenesità”.
• WOOD Our Balsamic ages in prestigious barrels made of typical woods like oak, chestnut, juniper, acacia, ash, mulberry, cherry. 

The company is located in the village of Marano sul Panaro, in the province of Modena (Emilia Romagna), among the suggestive hills of Villabianca. The Lambrusco Grasparossa and Trebbiano vineyards lie on clayey limestone hills. Olive groves, hazelnut groves and woods surround the rows of grapes, creating a unique ecosystem, where flora and fauna are the masters.
