high phenolic extra virgin olive oil tasting Experience at Bottega 1900
Explore High-Phenolic Extra Virgin Olive Oils
At Bottega 1900, we’re proud to offer one of Sydney’s most unique and educational olive oil tasting experiences — designed to help you discover the true depth and diversity of extra virgin olive oil.
Just like wine, olive oil has different varieties, flavour profiles, and terroirs. During our guided olive oil tastings, you’ll learn to recognise key sensory notes — from green tomato to fresh-cut grass, from almond to black pepper — while understanding the role of olive varieties and regional traditions.
We focus on early harvest, cold extracted extra virgin olive oils highlighting the polyphenols— known for their health benefits and intense, complex flavours. Each EVOO in our collection is carefully selected from family-owned farms across Italy, Australia and coming soon Spain, Greece, and Croatia, all committed to quality, sustainability, and tradition.
Book Your Experience in Our Tuscan Cellar
Hosted in our Tuscan-style wine cellar at the back of our Brookvale store, our extra virgin olive oil tastings are more than a flavour experience — they’re an opportunity to connect with the story behind each bottle. We also organise exclusive live video masterclasses with producers and experts directly from Italy and Australia, making Bottega 1900 an evolving olive oil hub.

Meet the Curators
Enea La Mantia’s journey with extra virgin olive oil began long before Bottega 1900 — it started among the ancient olive trees of Aspromonte, Calabria, where his family has been growing and producing olive oil for generations.
Raised with a deep respect for the land, Enea learned early on that olive oil isn’t just an ingredient — it’s a way of life. From harvesting the olives by hand to cold-pressing them within hours, every step was done with care, tradition, and pride. These values still shape everything he does today.
Now based in Sydney, Enea brings his passion and knowledge to a wider audience. Through Bottega 1900, he shares not only high-phenolic, small-batch EVOOs from across the Mediterranean, but also the stories behind them — stories of families, farmers, and centuries-old groves.
For Enea, every bottle is personal. Whether it comes from his own family’s land in Calabria or from a like-minded producer in Tuscany or Greece, it reflects a commitment to quality, biodiversity, and honest flavour.
His mission is simple: to help people discover what real extra virgin olive oil tastes like — and why it matters.

The Bottega 1900 wine cellar is curated by Alice Massaria, one of Australia’s most respected wine professionals — and not only a sommelier, but a trained winemaker with hands-on experience in Europe’s most iconic regions.
Alice’s career spans some of Sydney’s finest restaurants — including Bistecca, The Gidley, and as head sommelier at Mr Wong, Uccello, and Saint Peter — where she developed wine programs that earned national acclaim, including Best Wine List in Australia in 2019.
But her knowledge runs deeper than the dining room. Alice has worked directly in the vineyards and cellars of wineries like COS in Ragusa, Sicily and Terroir al Límit in Priorat, Spain, contributing to the winemaking process and deepening her understanding of terroir, varietals, and natural expression.
This rare combination of technical expertise and refined palate makes her curation truly exceptional. From elegant Barolo to wild Frappato, every wine in our cellar is chosen with a winemaker’s eye and a storyteller’s heart.
