Case d’Alto Aglianico Taurasi DOCG 2019 is a powerful and elegant expression of Aglianico from Irpinia, one of Campania’s most important red wine territories. Produced from 100% Aglianico, it combines the grape’s naturally firm structure with the depth and complexity that come from the high-altitude vineyards and long growing season of the area.
The 2019 vintage shows a deep ruby-red colour moving towards garnet. The nose is layered and savoury, with aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum, followed by notes of dried violet, sweet spice, tobacco, liquorice and Mediterranean herbs.
Aglianico Taurasi is often regarded as one of southern Italy’s great age-worthy reds, and this 2019 from Case d’Alto reflects that character: serious and structured, yet with enough fruit and balance to be enjoyed now, particularly after allowing it time to breathe.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with 14.5% alcohol balanced by Aglianico’s natural freshness and pronounced tannins. Dark fruit is joined by earthy and spicy notes, while the finish is long, dry and persistent. Its combination of acidity, tannin and concentration gives the wine excellent potential for further development in bottle.
SUGGESTED PAIRING FOOD
An excellent match for slow-cooked beef, lamb, wild game, braised meats, rich pasta dishes and mature cheeses.
Serve at around 16–18°C. If opening now, decanting for approximately one hour will help the wine open and soften its youthful structure.
