De Tarczal Campiano is a Merlot wine from Trentino’s Vallagarina Valley. Ruby red, dry and medium bodied, it offers fruit aromas with a subtle herbal note. Two years in large oak barrels give it a composed character that sits beautifully alongside grilled meats, hearty pasta and aged cheese.

A Merlot Wine from Trentino

Merlot is grown across Italy, but De Tarczal’s Campiano has a clear sense of place. The family makes this Merlot from its vineyards in Vallagarina, a valley in northern Trentino where the estate has worked for more than a century. Here, Merlot grows at the foot of the vineyards, in conditions the producer considers particularly well suited to the grape.

What does Campiano taste like?

Campiano has a ruby red colour and a fruit-led aroma with a light herbal note. On the palate, it is dry and medium bodied. The result is a Merlot with enough character for the dinner table and a measured, approachable style.

SUGGESTED PAIRING

De Tarczal recommends Campiano with grilled meats, substantial pasta dishes, boiled meats and aged cheeses. Pour it with a slow-cooked ragù, grilled beef or a board of mature Italian cheeses. Its medium body also makes it an appealing choice when you want a red that complements the meal without taking over.

At Bottega 1900, we enjoy bringing wines like Campiano to the table: bottles that make a meal more interesting and prompt a conversation about where they come from. If you would like to explore more of Italy’s regions in person, join one of our Sydney wine tastings.
