Origin of the Grape Variety
The history of Primitivo stretches back into ancient times. It likely arrived in Italy from across the Adriatic, brought by the Illyrians—an ancient Balkan people devoted to viticulture. The first reliable historical records of the grape date to the second half of the 18th century, when Don Francesco Filippo Indellicati, a church official in Gioia del Colle, observed that among the many vines in his vineyards, one variety ripened earlier than the others and produced particularly dark, sweet, and flavorful grapes. He selected and propagated these vines, planting the first single-varietal vineyard of what became known as “Primitivo” (then also referred to as “Primaticcio”).

PRIMITIVO WINE TASTING NOTE

Colour: Bright red with good consistency
Aroma:  Elegant aromas of ripe fruit and plum and fig jam, spicy and floral. The palate is warm, intense and structured with soft and elegant tannins.

Taste: Full-bodied and remarkably fresh on the palate, with a well-integrated tannic structure. The long finish is layered with memories of ripe plum, fig, wild herbs, and red citrus.

PRIMITIVO WINE SUGGESTED PAIRING FOOD

This Primitivo wine is very versatile for the entire meal. Pairs beautifully with flavourful pasta dishes, white and red meats, cured meats, savoury pies, rustic-style pizzas, fried foods, and semi-aged cheeses.
