The strength of young people at the service of the territory

Tenuta il Nespolo is in Moasca, near Nizza Monferrato and in the heart of one of Italy’s most wine-producing areas. It is run by Luca Amerio, grandson of Giovanni, the man who started the tradition in the 1960s. As often happens, the business started off quietly, but it didn’t take long for it to make a name for itself in neighbouring areas. So it was that grandfather Giovanni equipped himself with a truck to deliver his products directly door-to-door.

The great success also led to a consequent increase in the area under vines, and thus also to the search for new personnel. So it was that Luca’s father and uncle entered the business, immediately after finishing their studies.

 It was a wise choice because, shortly afterwards, his grandfather left the reins of the company to them. What was an all-round activity, as was often the case in the past, was skimmed off from cattle breeding and some cultivation, with the aim of concentrating on wine.

12 hectares cultivated with native and local vines such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Favorita, Chardonnay and Moscato. An authentic winery that still has the old cement vats and barriques for ageing Nizza, for example.

 The novelty lies in the Sangiovese, a grape variety that is not found in this area, but which was planted long ago by grandfather Giovanni. These grapes now make up a project called Vino da Sete, formed by blending traditional grapes with other less typical ones.
